About Susan Eisner

Susan P. Eisner is a Professor of Management and consultant with senior practitioner experience in national ventures of major organizations including a leading television station, a prominent health care foundation, a Presidential campaign, a public interest group, and a national political party. Her graduate degree is from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where she was an Administration Fellow. Her undergraduate degree is from Wellesley College, where she was a Durant Scholar.

Professor Eisner's research and teaching areas include business and society, organizational behavior and management, managerial communication, entertainment and arts management, and workplace diversity. She is particulary committed to teaching excellence, and includes pedagogy among her scholarly interests. Her paper "Effective Pedagogy for Business Schools Post-9/11/01" received a Best Paper Award at the 2002 International Business and Economic Research Conference, and was published (as revised) in the peer-reviewed Journal of Business and Economics Research in January 2003. A subsequent paper, "The Class Talk Show - A Pedagogical Tool," was presented and published at the Society for the Advancement of Management International Conference in April 2003, and appeared (as revised) in a 2004 issue of the peer-reviewed Advanced Management Journal. Her two following papers, "Simulating Workplace Skills: Three Integrative Exercises," and "Teaching Generation Y: Three Initiatives," each received Best Paper Awards upon presentation and publication at the 2004 College Teaching and Learning Conference, and were published (as revised) in 2004 issues of the peer-reviewed Journal of College Teaching and Learning. Her next paper, "A Model for Win-Win Interviewing: The Five C's" was presented at and published in the Proceedings of the peer-reviewed 2004 Society for Advancement of Management International Conference, and was published (as revised) in its peer-reviewed Management in Practice publication in 2005. Her paper "Managing Generation Y" was presented at and published in the Proceedings of the peer-reviewed 2005 Society for Advancement of Management International Conference, and was published (as revised) in the Autumn 2005 issue of the peer-reviewed Advanced Management Journal. Her two most recent papers, "Click Here For Reality: Enhancing Student Engagement," and "Apprentice Watch: Learning Through Reality TV" both received Best Paper Awards and were published in the peer-reviewed Proceedings at the 2006 College Teaching and Learning Conference; they are awaiting notification of acceptance for publication (as revised) in the peer-reviewed Journal of College Teaching and Learning.

Ms. Eisner has received numerous honors and awards including the Ramapo College Thomases Award for Faculty Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship, and Service, and the School of Administration and Business Outstanding Teacher Award. Her professional achievements have been recognized in prestigious biographical publications including Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Media and Communications, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, and Who's Who Among America's Teachers. She has been designated an Expert Teacher by the Faculty Resource Center at Ramapo College, and is included in The New Jersey Project's roster of speakers,

Professor Eisner is frequently invited to speak to and train professional and academic groups in management communication, organizational behavior, diversity, and teaching methods. She is particularly commited to helping individuals become more effective and satisfied through improved performance, interpersonal and problem solving ability, critical thinking and communication skill, and career management.

Ms. Eisner is dedicated to the communities of which she is a part, and to the students who are the foundation of our mission. At Ramapo College, her service ranges from the Faculty Advisory Council of the Faculty Assembly, to the Delta Nu Chapter of Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society, to the Advisory Council of the Faculty Resource Center, to the Advisory Board of the Center for Business and Public Policy, to the All-College Career Development Committee, to School of Business committees/task forces engaged in AACSB accreditation planning, to mentor for new faculty. She is a member of several professional associations, and serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Society for the Advancement of Management's Advanced Management Journal.

A sign-up sheet for appointments during scheduled office hours in Fall and Spring semesters is posted on Professor Eisner's office door, as a service to students. Scheduled office hours begin the second week of the Fall and Spring semester, and continue through the last week of the semester's classes. Appointments during Winter and Summer sessions are scheduled directly with the professor.

Professor Eisner regularly posts supplementary course materials for her classes using the Ramapo College Luminis system. Students enrolled in her classes may access that material by accessing the File link from the Course Homepage in the My Courses section of Luminis.
